Artist statement

My paintings come from a fascination for landcape and nature in general. It is all around us, with it’s beauty and growth everywhere and I love to recreate my own interpretation of this using unique, organic abstract forms.

In my paintings I use acrylics on canvas. I am always searching for a strong image with a variation in lines, patterns, colors and composition. Theme’s in my paintings are often florals, trees and water reflections. While painting I let go of the image and a more or less abstract painting emerges.

I love to use a vivid color palette, a combination of bright warm colors contrasting with more neutral hues and dark and cold colors. 

My nature inspired paintings are a reflection of my impression of what I see, feel and experience.

Bio

Geesien Postema is a painter based in The Netherlands who creates colorful landscape paintings in acrylics.

She went to artschool when she was 19 years old. However she wasn’t commited enough and after a year she went to New York to work as an au pair girl.

After that she worked for years as a metalworker for 10 years. When she was in her mid-thirties the job at the metal company wasn’t challenging anymore and with having a family, she quit her job and finally found time again to be creative.

She went to a parttime artschool called NAU in Utrecht for 5 years.

After completing this artschool she has exhibited in many public spaces like hospitals, nursinghomes, restaurants, a courthouse and a theater.

She has participated in curated artfairs and exhibitions.

Her art has been sold to collectors in many different countries in Europe and the USA.
